Transversity and Dihadron Fragmentation Functions *

چکیده
The observation of the quark transversity distribution requires another soft object sensitive to the quark's transverse spin. Dihadron fragmentation functions represent a convenient tool to analyze partonic spin, which can influence the angular distribution of the two hadrons. In particular, the so-called interference fragmentation functions can be used to probe transversity both in semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering as well as proton-proton collisions. We discuss two single-spin asymmetries sensitive to transversity in the these two processes, at leading twist and leading order in α S. Transversity has received a lot of attention during this conference. Its measurement is on the agenda of several experimental collaborations. However , it is still not clear what will turn out to be the best way to access it. Different options will be explored in the next few years: polarized Drell-Yan, polarized Λ production, azimuthal asymmetries in pion production and, finally, azimuthal asymmetries in two-pion production. a Each one of these processes has some advantages and drawbacks, making it necessary to explore all of them at the same time. Here, we focus on azimuthal asymmetries in two-hadron production. First of all we consider leptoproduction of two hadrons in the current fragmentation region, i.e. the process lp → l ′ (h 1 h 2)X. The outgoing hadrons have momenta P 1 and P 2 , masses M 1 and M 2 , and invariant mass * Work partially supported by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. a At the moment, data are available only for azimuthal asymmetries in pion production. 1

First glances at the transversity parton distribution through dihadron fragmentation functions.
We present first observations of the transversity parton distribution based on an analysis of pion-pair production in deep-inelastic scattering off transversely polarized targets. The extraction of transversity relies on the knowledge of dihadron fragmentation functions, which we take from electron-positron annihilation measurements. This is the first attempt to determine the transversity distr...

We report on the phenomenological results obtained through Dihadron Fragmentation Functions related processes. In 2015, an update on the fitting techniques for the Dihadron Fragmentation Functions has led to an improved extraction of the transversity PDF and, as a consequence, the nucleon tensor charge. We discuss the impact of the determination of the latter on search for physics Beyond the St...
متن کاملDihadron interference fragmentation functions in proton-proton collisions
We study the production of hadron pairs in proton-proton collisions, selecting pairs with large total transverse momentum with respect to the beam, and small relative transverse momentum, i.e., belonging to a single jet with large transverse momentum. We describe the process in terms of dihadron fragmentation functions. We consider the production of one pair in polarized collisions (with one tr...
متن کاملModeling dihadron fragmentation functions
We present a model for dihadron fragmentation functions, describing the fragmentation of a quark into two unpolarized hadrons. We tune the parameters of our model to the output of the PYTHIA event generator for two-hadron semi-inclusive production in deep inelastic scattering at HERMES. Once the parameters of the model are fixed, we make predictions for other unknown fragmentation functions and...
متن کاملRealistic estimate of valence transversity from dihadron production
We have updated our extraction of the transversity parton distribution based on the analysis of pion-pair production in deep-inelastic scattering off transversely polarized targets in collinear factorization. The most recent COMPASS data for proton and deuteron targets, complemented by previous HERMES data on the proton, make it possible to perform a flavor separation of the valence components ...
